Kendrick Lamar was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live over the weekend, delivering unsurprisingly great performances of ‘Swimming Pools (Drank)’ and a Drake-free ‘Poetic Justice’. Backed by a full band, he absolutely kills it on a notoriously difficult stage and I’m now regretting missing his recent Auckland show more than ever. Lamar also joined inexplicable host Adam Levine on a collab with The Lonely Island titled ‘YOLO’. The track marks the first Andy Samberg and co. have dropped since leaving the show, although unfortunately it’s not as triumphant as expected. Despite featuring a Joy Formidable sample, a Danny McBride cameo and an awesomely goofy verse from Lamar, the track is pretty uninspired and so is its video. Let’s hope this isn’t an omen for the boys’ forthcoming third album.
