Producer Hal Willner has put together a new double-LP of famous artists covering old pirate songs entitled Son of Rogue’s Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs & Chantey’s, a follow-up to his 2006 compilation. The album features a host of big names, including Nick Cave, Iggy Pop, Michael Stipe, Johnny Depp, Shane MacGowan, Patti Smith and more. The most exciting contribution, however, comes from a collaboration between Tom Waits and Keith Richards who have worked together several times over the years — most recently on Waits’ terrific 2011 LP Bad As Me. The pair offer a sloppy take on the ballad ‘Shenandoah’ that is every bit as gravelly and great as you would expect.

Son Of Rogue’s Gallery is out February 19. Listen to ‘Shenandoah’ below (via NPR).
