Roman Coppola has been occupying his time of late collaborating with Wes Anderson, having co-written The Darjeeling Limited and this year’s Moonrise Kingdom as well as handling second unit direction duties on The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (not to mention on films by his famous father Francis and sister Sofia). Now he’s ready to follow-up his 2001 debut CQ with the ridiculously titled A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III, and it looks as though some of that Andersonian quirkiness has rubbed off. The film stars Charlie Sheen as the titular character, a famous graphic designer whose extravagant and seemingly ideal life goes off the rails when his true love dumps him. Set in a stylised 1970s Los Angeles, the film certainly seems to be of the same ilk as Anderson’s recent work, especially when you consider the supporting cast prominently features both Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman alongside Aubrey Plaza, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Patricia Arquette. If this first trailer is any indication, the film is certainly going to be a lot of fun, but whether or not it all works is anyone’s guess at this stage.
A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III arrives February 8, State-side. Check out the first trailer and poster below (via The Film Stage).
