[LISTEN] BATTLES’ Remix LP ‘Dross Glop’

Battles’ Gloss Drop remix album Dross Glop is due next week, but the entire LP is now available to stream online. The New York math-rock trio have gathered a tasteful and diverse selection of artists to re-interpret their work, including The Field, Gui Boratto, Hudson Mohawke, Kangding Ray, Alchemist and Kode9. Highlights for me are contributions from Gang Gang Dance and Shabazz Palaces, …

[REVIEW] BIG DAY OUT Auckland 2012

The Big Day Out did not go out with a bang, nor a whimper, at Auckland’s Mt. Smart Stadium last Friday, but perhaps something in between. The clip was directed by a talented duo who go by the name of Daniels, in collaboration with The Creators Project and Warp. It features some clever techniques to make it appear as if the entire …

BIG DAY OUT 2012 First Line-up Announcement

The first line-up announcement for Big Day Out 2012 was drip-fed to social media sites over the last 12 hours (an annoying strategy for fans I must say). The headliners for the Australasian summer music festival are reformed grunge rockers Soundgarden and hip hop mogul Kanye West. These headliners weren’t supposed to be announced til …

[Watch] BATTLES ft. GARY NUMAN: ‘My Machines’

Battles dropped a new video today for ‘My Machines’, one of the highlights from their Gloss Drop LP thanks to the vocal talents of synth-pop pioneer Gary Numan. The video one-ups OK GO’s treadmills as a mall shopper suffers a torturous, never-ending fall down an escalator. Numan and Battles taunt the hapless guy by performing around him. The clip is directed by Daniels, a talented duo from The Creators Project known for their wild music videos for …
