One of the most charming and crowd-pleasing films of the 2012 NZ International Film Festival was Lynn Shelton’s latest dramedy Your Sister’s Sister. The Humpday writer/director reunites with mumblecore fixture Mark Duplass who stars as Jack, an aimless 30-something guy who hasn’t recovered from the death of his brother one year ago. His best friend, Iris (Emily Blunt), sends him away to her father’s empty cabin, unaware that her sister, Hannah (Rosemarie DeWitt), is there for similar reasons after just ending a seven-year relationship. The two get acquainted over tequila shots, but when Iris drops by unexpectedly complications arise and revelations come to light. The trio of leads give incredibly naturalistic performances here — particularly the wonderful Blunt (Looper) — and Shelton continues to impress as a filmmaker. Your Sister’s Sister is one of the must-see indie films of 2012, and A Fistful of Culture is proud to have three copies on Blu-ray to giveaway thanks to Madman.
