[WATCH] Intriguing first look at HANNIBAL starring Mads Mikkelsen

Hannibal

Hannibal Lecter is heading to the small screen soon in NBC’s Hannibal, which looks to be one of the more intriguing new shows of 2013. Developed by Bryan Fuller (Pushing DaisiesDead Like Me) with David Slade (Hard Candy30 Days of Night) directing the first episode and executive producing, the show stars Hugh Dancy (Martha Marcy May Marlene) as FBI agent Will Graham and Danish sensation Mads Mikkelsen (Casino RoyaleThe Hunt) as the titular therapist who is brought in to help catch serial killers. Graham was previously played by William Peterson in Michael Mann’s excellent 1986 film Manhunter — the first adaptation of Thomas Harris’ novels — as well as by Edward Norton in Brett Ratner’s inferior 2002 remake Red Dragon, while Lecter will of course always be associated with Anthony Hopkins portrayal in The Silence of the Lambs. Hannibal‘s impressive supporting cast includes Laurence Fishburne, Gillian Anderson, Caroline Dhavernas, Gina Torres and a guest appearance from Lance Henriksen. A promising first look surfaced this week in the form of a chilling still (above) and a 30-second teaser trailer in which Mikkelsen looks perfectly cast (and How to Destroy Angels’ ‘The Space In Between‘ is effectively utilised). Having the audience aware of Lecter’s true nature with the knowledge that it will eventually be revealed is an interesting dynamic, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it works over the course of the 13-episode first season. Let’s just hope NBC doesn’t mess this one up and then end up cancelling it like everything else…

Hannibal premieres on April 4. Watch the teaser trailer below (via The Playlist).

Thanks for sharing the trailer Dominic! I’ve been wondering when a premiere date for this show would finally roll around, so I’m thrilled to learn it’s not as far away as I thought. I am glad to learn this show will be a part of NBC’s primetime lineup too, because usually with the late hours I work at DISH, I forget to record the shows I’m looking forward to. I won’t have to remember to set a recording timer for this show though, since my DISH Hopper will do it automatically for me each week. I have a feature enabled where all of the primetime shows on NBC record for me automatically each night, so luckily I won’t have to worry about missing a moment of what’s to come with Hannibal! 🙂
