Kathryn Bigelow’s CIA procedural Zero Dark Thirty has been picking up some serious momentum recently, taking out major awards at the New York Film Critics Circle and The National Board of Review, earning four Golden Globe nominations, and placing highly on countless year-end lists already. I was lucky enough to catch the film last week, and while my review won’t be up until next month, I’m pleased to report that Bigelow and writer Mark Boal have delivered a masterful, intelligent and ambitious film that currently has my vote for the best American film of 2012 (I have yet to see Lincoln or Silver Linings Playbook). A second trailer has surfaced to capitalise on all this hype and fittingly it’s the best yet, placing Jessica Chastain’s determined Maya front and centre and providing the best look so far at the film’s huge, journalistic story of the greatest manhunt in history.
Zero Dark Thirty hits December 19 in the US (limited release) and January 31 in NZ. Watch the second theatrical trailer below.
