Following two surprisingly elegiac, Terrence Malick-esque teaser trailers for Man of Steel — which arrived earlier this year and left me wondering exactly what approach director Zack Snyder was taking with his Superman reboot — the full theatrical trailer landed today and confirmed that this is definitely the most serious cinematic take on the iconic character yet. Baring Christopher Nolan’s influence all over it — he produces and co-writes with Dark Knight scribe David S. Goyer — this epic trailer shows off some serious scope and suggests a compelling reflection on Clark Kent/Superman’s (Henry Cavill) powers and identity, while also providing our first decent look at the impressive supporting cast which includes Michael Shannon as the villainous General Zod, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as the Kents, Russell Crowe as Jor El, plus Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni and Richard Schiff. I’m on board with everything we see here, and this is unexpectedly becoming one of my most anticipated films of 2013.
Man of Steel lands in theatres on June 14, 2013 in the States and June 27 in NZ. Check out the new trailer and poster below (via The Playlist).
