Although we’ve previously seen an exciting (but vague) teaser trailer and poster, things have been pretty quiet promo-wise for Kathryn Bigelow’s (The Hurt Locker) awards-threatening military thriller Zero Dark Thirty. That changed today when we were finally treated to the first full theatrical trailer, and the film looks perhaps even more engrossing and substantial than anticipated. As previously reported, Bigelow has gathered one hell of an ensemble for this hunt for Bin Laden story, including Jessica Chastain, Jason Clarke, Joel Edgerton, Mark Strong, Jennifer Ehle, Kyle Chandler and Edgar Ramirez as the principal cast, as well as Chris Pratt, Scott Adkins, Harold Perrineau, Frank Grillo, James Gandolfini and Mark Duplass in supporting roles. This new trailer gives us a first look at several of these actors — placing Chastain front and centre — but more importantly it provides our first real indication of the scope of Zero Dark Thirty, which seems go beyond merely following the hunting, finding and killing of the Al Queda terrorist leader to show some of the uneasy political machinations involved, and I’m very intrigued.
Zero Dark Thirty hits December 19 in the US and January 31 in NZ. Watch the trailer below (via The Playlist).
