[LISTEN] Jonny Greenwood’s soundtrack for THE MASTER

There Will Be Blood was indisputably one of the great films — if not the greatest — of the past decade, and one of its many pleasures was the brilliant and eerie score provided by Radiohead multi-instrumentalist Jonny Greenwood, which was unfortunately disqualified for an Academy Award nomination due to an arcane designation which excludes “the use of tracked themes or other pre-existing music.” Greenwood reunites with director Paul Thomas Anderson on his feverishly anticipated new film The Master, and the original soundtrack is now available to stream via Spotify (which means you’ll have to sign up if you want to hear it). On first listen, it sounds appropriately paranoid, sparse, evocative and just terrific, and it’s got me even more excited about seeing this film.
