[LISTEN] FLYING LOTUS: ‘Between Friends’ ft. Earl Sweatshirt & Captain Murphy

Following great entries from Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Wye Oak, Adult Swim’s excellent Singles Program series continues this week with a new track from Flying Lotus featuring Earl Sweatshirt and “Captain Murphy” (who sounds suspiciously like Tyler, the Creator). ‘Between Friends’ features exactly the kind of thick production and jazzy beats we expect from FlyLo by now, and Earl and Captain Murphy’s muffled, weaving and stoned verses make it difficult to decipher who is actually rapping, which is not a problem when it sounds this good. The track reminds me of MF Doom and Danger Mouse’s superb Adult Swim-related LP The Mouse and the Mask, and I would love to hear more from these guys as this is one of the best hip-hop tracks I’ve heard all year. FlyLo also released two new instrumental tracks this week – which won’t be featuring on his forthcoming LP Until the Quiet Comes – and you can also find them below.
