With pilot season nearing, a four-minute extended trailer has surfaced for NBC’s apocalyptic new show Revolution, which is set 15 years after an unknown phenomenon permanently disabled all advanced technology on the planet, with warlords and militias taking over following the collapse of public order. Starring Billy Burke (Twilight), Andrea Roth (Ringer), and Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), the show is more than likely to be picked up when you take a glance at the impressive team behind it: producer J.J. Abrams (Lost, Fringe), director Jon Favreau (Iron Man), and creator Eric Kripke (Supernatural). The trailer features some nice visuals and certainly looks expensive, and Esposito seems to be in fine form once again, although unfortunately the same can’t be said for the rest of the cast who deliver some cringe-worthy lines. Abrams’ record with high concept, sci-fi-tinged dramas is strong, although his recent additions – Person of Interest and Alcatraz – left a lot to be desired. Revolution is due later this year, and at this stage I’m cautiously optimistic (with emphasis on the cautious).
