[WATCH] Will Ferrell & Zach Galifianakis duke it out in THE CAMPAIGN Trailer #1

After making a name for himself with the successful yet middling comedy franchises Austin Powers and Meet the Parents, director Jay Roach took an interesting left turn recently by making two impressive political dramas, Recount and Game Change, for HBO. Now it looks as though he is combining these two sides of his career with The Campaign, starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as rival politicians – Ferrell as the seasoned Congressman, Galifianakis as the newbie – who are competing for a Congressional seat in North Carolina. The first trailer was released today, and both seem to be rehashing old standup characters – Ferrell’s George W. Bush impression and Galifianakis’ awkward, alter-ego “brother” Seth. While there are a few good laughs in the trailer (especially that baby-punching scene at the end), there’s nothing terribly original or exciting going on here, but The Campaign looks mildly entertaining at the very least and as a fan of both leads I’m curious to see how it turns out.

The Campaign hits US screens August 10, and also stars Dylan McDermott and Jason Sudeikis. Watch the first trailer below (via The Playlist).
