[WATCH] Wes Anderson’s MOONRISE KINGDOM Trailer #1

The first trailer was released today for Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, and to no one’s surprise it looks absolutely marvellous. Anderson, the talented auteur responsible for such gems as The Royal Tenenbaums and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, has once again gathered a remarkable cast, including regular collaborators Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman, alongside Edward Norton, Bruce Willis, Francis McDormand and Tilda Swinton. Although each of Anderson’s films has a timeless quality, Moonrise Kingdom is his first set in the past, taking place on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965. It tells the story of two 12 year olds (newcomers Kara Hayward and Jared Gillman) who fall in love and run away together into the wilderness, leaving the entire island community distressed and on the lookout. The trailer features many of Anderson’s trademarks, including his love of foreign music, slow motion, ensemble casts, wide-angle shots, and general quirkiness. All of which is to say this is one of my most anticipated films of 2012.

Moonrise Kingdom is due May 25 in the US. Watch the first trailer below.

  1. [WATCH] Two fun Hyundai commercials directed by Wes Anderson | A FISTFUL OF CULTURE

[…] Two new Hyundai commercials aired during this week’s Oscar telecast in the US, and even the most casual film fan wouldn’t have had trouble recognising the trademark style of director Wes Anderson all over these charming 30-second spots. The first (“Modern Life”) is a frantic, almost single-take affair in which a father struggles to juggle dinner preparations and three children while his wife gives him instructions over the phone, while the second (“Talk to My Car”) employs a more whimsical approach with echoes of Anderson’s own The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and Fantastic Mr. Fox, as well as nods to James Bond, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Incredibles. Both commercials are a whole lot of fun and serve as a reminder of how excited I am for Anderson’s forthcoming film, Moonrise Kingdom. […]
