Fresh off its festival conquering run, Richard Linklater’s 12-years-in-the-making Boyhood is heading to New Zealand cinemas this week. This utterly unique and ambitious film follows a fictional Texan family — with Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke as the separated parents — as the youngest son (Ellar Coltrane) literally grows up before our eyes. What sounds like a potential gimmick on paper is in fact a powerful yet subtle meditation on the passage of time, with the kind of natural performances and authentic dialogue that we expect from Linklater by now, and this remarkably affecting film is his crowning achievement. Undoubtedly the film of the year, Boyhood is a wonder that deserves to be shared and discussed, and A Fistful of Culture is proud to have five double passes to giveaway courtesy of Paramount.
Boyhood is in cinemas from August 28. Watch the trailer below.
