Following its New York Comic-Con reveal over the weekend, the first teaser trailer for MGM’s remake of Carrie has surfaced online. Directed by Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry, Stop-Loss), this modern take on Stephen King’s 1974 novel stars Chloë Grace Moretz in the titular role made famous by Sissy Spacek, and Julianne Moore as her repressive mother (formerly played by Piper Laurie). While it seems completely unnecessary and cynical to remake Carrie, both the cast and the director involved are interesting enough as is this unexpectedly impressive teaser, which re-imagines the iconic climax of Brian De Palma’s film with the high school in flames, showing us a birds-eye view of the town as locals voice their disbelief at what’s happening before zeroing in on Carrie in her bloody prom dress. It certainly looks more promising than expected, but let’s withhold judgement until we see more than just a brief tease of the footage.
Carrie opens in the US on March 15, 2013. Check out the first teaser trailer and poster below (via The Playlist).
