Following last month’s promising but hardly exciting first trailer, a new extended TV spot for Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln aired after the first presidential debate between Obama and Romney earlier today (significantly outshining that dull affair). Essentially a new trailer, this two-minute spot is much more fiery and impassioned and appropriately puts the focus on Daniel Day-Lewis, and I’m sure anyone not already on board for this historial epic will be now. Day-Lewis looks as terrific and Oscar-worthy as expected, and the incredible supporting cast — of which we primarily see Tommy Lee Jones, David Strathairn and Sally Field — seem to be on fine form too. Everything here points towards 2013 Oscar glory, but we’ll have to wait and see if Spielberg can deliver on the hype and manage to top similarly buzzed films such as The Master, Life of Pi, Silver Linings Playbook, Argo, Les Misérables and Beasts of the Southern Wild.
Lincoln hits US theatres on November 9. There is no New Zealand release date scheduled yet. The massive cast also includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, James Spader, John Hawkes, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jackie Earle Haley, Jared Harris, Lee Pace, Bruce McGill, Adam Driver, Walton Goggins, TIm Blake Nelson, Hal Holbrook and David Oyelowo.
