Ever since The Iceman was announced with some tantalizing promo footage last year, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the film. It stars Michael “Intense” Shannon as real life mob hitman Richard Kuklinski, who was nicknamed “The Iceman” due to the fact that he froze the bodies of his victims in order to throw the authorities. This is the first big film from young filmmaker Ariel Vromen (Danika), and there were some problematic casting issues along the way, with James Franco leaving and being replaced by Chris Evans, only to return in a smaller role, and Benecio Del Toro disappearing altogether. The film has unfortunately been receiving some rather mixed reviews following its Venice premiere this week, and while this first trailer certainly looks a little on the predictable side and dubiously seems to use ever-shifting facial hair to signify the passing of time, I’m still curious to see it solely for the incredible Shannon and the solid — if uninspired — supporting cast, which also includes Winona Ryder, Ray Liotta, David Schwimmer (!) and Stephen Dorff.
