In the build-up to its Venice and TIFF screenings — and subsequent U.S. theatrical release — a final theatrical trailer has been released for Paul Thomas Anderson’s feverishly anticipated new film The Master. Once again, the film appears utterly compelling and intriguingly strange here, featuring a monologue by The Cause founder Lancaster Dodd (Philip Seymour Hoffman) as we witness the frantic life of his follower Freddie Quell (Joaquin Phoenix). Despite the fact that this trailer is the fifth piece of promo we’ve seen for The Master, the film remains an enigma, which is quite a feat, and I’m hanging out for a New Zealand release date to be scheduled.
The Master opens State-side on September 14. Watch the final trailer below (via The Playlist).
