Bradford Cox of Deerhunter/Atlas Sound is the latest artist to cover Leonard Cohen as part of the Old Ideas with New Friends Series (following Greg Dulli and Cults), celebrating Cohen’s excellent new album Old Ideas. Cox performs a solo acoustic version of Cohen’s 1969 song ‘Seems So Long Ago, Nancy’, commenting, “ever since the first time I heard it, I thought it was the most haunting song I’d ever heard.” Deerhunter have been on hiatus while Cox’s attention has been on Atlas Sound lately, but the group still managed to release an instrumental song this week for the We Are the Works in Progress compilation, which you can check out below.

A few months back, Kazu Makino’s (Blonde Redhead) Tsunami benefit compilation We Are the Works in Progress was brought to my attention via a new Four Tet track. This week a brand new instrumental Deerhunter track also taken from that compilation surfaced online.
