Writer/director John Michael McDonagh made an impressive debut in 2011 with The Guard, which served as a hilarious showcase for the great Brendan Gleeson. The pair are returning to NZ screens next week with an even blacker comedy, Calvary, which follows the story of a good priest (Gleeson) who is faced with troubling circumstances brought about by a mysterious member of his parish. If the promise of more McDonagh and Gleeson magic isn’t enough to make you head straight to your local cinema, the film’s stellar supporting cast of Aidan Gillen, Chris O’Dowd, Kelly Reilly, Dylan Moran, M. Emmet Walsh and Gleeson’s talented son Domhnall certainly ought to be!
