George Clooney is taking a decidedly lighter approach with his latest directorial effort, The Monuments Men, following 2011’s admirable and deeply cynical The Ides of March. Adapted from Robert M. Edsel’s book by Clooney and Grant Heslov, the film tells the incredible true story of seven art historians and museum curators who went behind enemy lines during World War II on a mission to recover some of the world’s greatest works of art. Clooney has enlisted one of the year’s best ensembles — Matt Damon, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Hugh Bonneville and John Goodman — and while this first trailer isn’t the most exciting of the awards season crop, The Monuments Men certainly looks like an entertaining time.
