Ever since it’s critically lauded debut at Sundance earlier this year, I’ve been hanging out to see David Lowery’s outlaw drama Ain’t Them Bodies Saints. Following its Cannes inclusion in the Critics’ Week section, the film is set to hit U.S. theatres in August — and hopefully gain international distribution soon — and we finally get a good look at it in this incredible first trailer. Set in 1970s Texas Hill Country, the film stars Casey Affleck as an outlaw who escapes from prison and sets out to reunite with his wife (Rooney Mara) and the daughter he has never met. The supporting cast also features Ben Foster, Nate Parker and Keith Carradine. The film looks beautifully shot and performed, and with Lowery already impressing earlier this year as Shane Carruth’s editor on the magnificent Upstream Color, he is certainly well on his way to becoming a must-watch filmmaking talent.
Ain’t Them Bodies Saints opens August 16 in the US. Check out the first trailer and poster below.
