Johnnie To is best known to Western audiences as Hong Kong’s premiere crime filmmaker, responsible for such gems as Mad Detective, Exiled, The Sparrow and the Election films. Over the past couple of years, To has been changing it up a little with two romantic films — 2011’s Don’t Go Breaking My Heart and last year’s Romancing in Thin Air — as well as the recession-influenced thriller Life Without Principle, which has hit New Zealand shelves at long last. The film stars To regulars Sean Lau Ching-wan and Richie Ren alongside singer-actress Denise Ho as three people with nothing in common except their desperate need for cash, and a bag containing five million dollars. It looks to be another tense, riveting entry in To’s prolific and impressive canon, and A Fistful of Culture has three copies to giveaway on DVD this week courtesy of Madman.
Life Without Principle is out now on DVD. Check out the trailer and DVD cover below.
