Divisive indie filmmaker Harmony Korine (Gummo) is back with Spring Breakers, a surprisingly star-studded affair that looks to be his most accessible work to date. The film stars former Disney princesses Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens alongside Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine (Harmony’s wife) as a group of college friends who decide to rob a restaurant to finance their spring break trip to Florida. When they get busted for drug possession, a sleazy dealer — James Franco, bizarrely recalling Gary Oldman’s wigga from True Romance — bails them out to work for him. Featuring a party-time score from Skrillex and Cliff Martinez, this rather insane and titillating first trailer looks like a hell of a lot of fun and I’m fascinated to see whether or not it works as a whole.
Spring Breakers opens March 22 in the US (there is no NZ release scheduled yet). Check out the first trailer plus a new international trailer below, as well as some recent posters (via The Playlist).
