Miguel Gomes’ black-and-white Portugese drama Tabu has been slowly but surely accumulating international acclaim as it works its way around the festival circuit. With a limited released set for Boxing Day in the U.S., a new trailer has been released which highlights just how enamored critics are by this film. This trailer doesn’t portray the film’s experimental structure — it is split into two halves which each filmed on different stock — but rather focusses on the mysterious and romantic story, its trio of lead actresses (Teresa Madruga, Laura Soveral, Ana Moreira), and a jazzy cover of The Ronettes’ ‘Be My Baby’. Of all the films I missed at the 2012 NZ International Film Festival, this one hurts the most and I sincerely hope I get another opportunity to see it soon.
Tabu is opening in limited release on December 26 in the U.S. Watch the trailer and two clips below (via The Playlist).
