Aubrey Plaza will follow-up this year’s indie success Safety Not Guaranteed with the R-rated comedy The To Do List. Directed by Funny or Die writer Maggie Carey, the film follows the story of a Type-A overachiever (Plaza) who comes up with a sexual “to-do list” to complete before heading to college, after coming to the realisation that she has missed out on all the high school rites of passage that her peers experienced. The plot is essentially a familiar teen sex comedy with a refreshing gender twist — described by co-star (and the director’s husband) Bill Hader as a “raunchy Sixteen Candles” — but what makes it look really promising is Plaza and the incredible supporting cast, which also includes Rachel Bilson, Andy Samberg, Scott Porter, Connie Britton, Clark Gregg, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Donald Glover, Johnny Simmons, Sarah Steele and Alia Shawkat. The red-band trailer released today features a typically deadpan and hilarious introduction from Plaza, and The To Do List should make for a welcome alternative to the awful rom-com’s we’ll be bombarded with around Valentine’s Day next year.
The To Do List is set for a February 14, 2013 release in the US. Watch the red-band trailer below (via The Playlist).
