A Thing Called Divine Fits is the highly anticipated and unexpected debut LP from indie supergroup Divine Fits, composed of Dan Boeckner (Handsome Furs, Wolf Parade), Britt Daniel (Spoon) and drummer Sam Brown (New Bomb Turks), with Alex Fischel helping out on keys. The album is due next week, but you can stream it in its entirety below. I’m absolutely loving the new-wave-meets-indie-rock direction of these 11 tracks — including a cover of The Boys Next Door’s ‘Shivers’! — and this is easily one of the most surprising and rewarding albums of the year. With Wolf Parade on an indefinite hiatus and Handsome Furs now broken up, this is our first chance to hear new material from Boeckner, who takes lead vocal duties on roughly half the tracks, with Daniels contributing the rest. The result is not the bloated, egotistical product most supergroups deliver, but rather an organic and well-crafted continuation of the work these talented musicians have done with their respective bands which manages to impress and stand alone despite the expectations.
A Thing Called Divine Fits is out August 28. Stream it below (via NPR).
