The hysterical first trailer has hit for Martin McDonagh’s Seven Psychopaths, the hotly anticipated follow-up to his terrific 2008 debut film In Bruges. The film reunites the writer-director with Colin Farrell, starring as a struggling screenwriter who becomes entangled in the Los Angeles criminal underworld after his eccentric dognapping friends (Sam Rockwell and Christopher Walken) inadvertently kidnap a gangster’s (Woody Harrelson) beloved Shih Tzu. Abbie Cornish, Tom Waits and Olga Kurylenko (billed in a self-aware way, as a “Bond girl”) round out the “psycopath” supporting cast, and Zeljko Ivanek, Kevin Corrigan and Gabourey Sidibe also star. Seven Psychopaths looks absolutely hilarious, promising more of McDonagh’s pitch-black comedy with a killer cast — a seemingly rejuvenated Walken! Waits holding a bunny! — and this is suddenly one of my most anticipated films of the year.
Seven Psychopaths hits US theatres on October 12, following its TIFF premiere. Watch the first trailer below (via The Playlist).
