A hair-raising trailer surfaced this week for Antiviral, the debut film from Brandon Cronenberg, son of legendary Canadian director David (whose Cosmopolis also screened at Cannes this year). It certainly looks like Brandon has done his Dad proud here, delivering the kind of freaky body-horror that Cronenberg sr. has been shying away from over the past decade. The film stars Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men: First Class) as a worker at the Lucas Clinic, where patients in the near future pay to be infected with diseases harvested from their favourite celebrity. Antiviral looks deliciously twisted and provocative in the trailers and viral clips we’ve seen so far, and it seems as though Brandon has come through for the longtime Cronenberg fans who pine for a return to the disturbing days of Scanners, Videodrome and The Fly.
Antiviral will play at the Toronto International Film Festival next month. Check out a new trailer, two viral clips and poster below (via Collider).
