[LISTEN] CAT POWER: ‘Ruin’

Cat Power has announced today that she will release Sun, her first LP since 2008’s Jukebox and first album of original material since 2006’s The Greatest, this September. Chan Marshall performed and produced Sun herself in various locations, and she recently told UK outlet The Stool Pigeon that the record’s completion coincided with her split from long-time boyfriend Giovanni Ribisi. “I cut my hair off three days [after the break-up], got on a plane to France, and finished the shit,” she said. “It’s all good, you know. I love the person very much. I actually love this record very much, too. I’m very proud of it.” Marshall also released the LP’s wonderful first single ‘Ruin’ earlier today, and it’s a surprisingly sprightly number for something off a break-up album.

Sun is due September 4. Check out the tracklist and listen to ‘Ruin’ below (via P4K).
