Julie Delpy is set to follow-up her hilarious 2007 directorial debut 2 Days in Paris with 2 Days in New York, in which she co-stars with Chris Rock. This sequel finds the anxious and disordered Marion (Delpy) living comfortably in Manhattan with her boyfriend Mingus (Rock), along with their cat and two children from previous relationships. However, when Marion’s jolly father (played by Delpy’s real-life father, Albert), her over-sexed sister, and her sister’s outrageous boyfriend unceremoniously descend upon them for a visit, it initiates two unforgettable days that will test Marion and Mingus’s relationship. 2 Days in Paris was a remarkably refreshing rom-com, intelligently examining neurosis and relationships with natural performances and well-observed humour, which seemed to take influence equally from Richard Linklater and Woody Allen. With its Manhattan setting, 2 Days in New York looks to be channeling the Allen influence even further, and I’m definitely intrigued to see how this plays out, as well as finding out how Chris Rock fares in comparison to Adam Goldberg’s character from the first film.
2 Days in New York opens August 10 in the US. Check out the first trailer and poster below (via The Playlist).
