Bond is back and (hopefully) better than ever this year with Skyfall, the follow-up to 2006’s excellent Daniel Craig-starring James Bond reboot Casino Royale, and its rushed, poorly conceived sequel Quantum of Solace. After being stalled by MGM’s bankruptcy, Skyfall is finally on its way and promises to be one of the most exciting film events of the second half of this year. The studio have spared no expense to deliver the goods this time around, landing Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes (American Beauty), as well as his frequent cinematographer Roger Deakins, Oscar-nominated writer John Logan (Hugo), and an incredibly talented cast which includes Javier Bardem, Judi Dench (in her seventh and supposedly final appearance as M), Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney, Ben Whishaw, Helen McCrory, Naomie Harris, Ola Rapace, Berenice Marlohe and Rory Kinnear. The first teaser trailer arrived for Skyfall today, and it certainly looks excellent, with the stakes appearing to be higher than ever for Craig’s Bond, as his loyalty to M is tested when her past comes back to haunt her. We see nothing of Bardem’s villain, bar a silhouette, so there’s still plenty more to be revealed. Based on this beautifully shot teaser and the immense talent involved, I don’t think it’s going out on too much of a limb to say Skyfall has the potential to be the greatest Bond film yet, and I’m eagerly anticipating its release.
Skyfall hits Europe on October 26 and the US on November 9. New Zealand audiences will have to wait until November 22. Check out the first trailer and poster below (via The Playlist).
A “super trailer” for Skyfall was also released today by Sony, containing the exact same teaser trailer as above followed by a trailer for a new Bond video game called 007: Legends, which looks kind of fun. Take a look below.
