[WATCH] Final THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Trailer sets expectations ridiculously high

Following yesterday’s viral teasers, the final theatrical trailer for The Dark Knight Rises was released a little earlier than expected today, and it is something to behold. For anyone worried that the relative silence from Christopher Nolan and co. since the IMAX preview spelled trouble. this trailer will ease your mind (and then some). As much as I loved The Avengers, and can’t wait for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, this final trailer confirms without a doubt that The Dark Knight Rises is the film event of 2012. While those two blockbusters lifted the BRAAAHM sound effect for their promos which Nolan popularised in 2010 with Inception, he goes in another direction here, more elegiac in tone yet still breathtakingly grand in scope. It reveals our best look yet at Bane (Tom Hardy), who is absolutely terrifying (thankfully sounding more intelligible than in his IMAX début), as well as Catwoman (Anne Hathaway), who feels more integral and believable than she has up until now. We also get our first good look at John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), who seems as if he might be the next Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), but Marion Cotillard and Juno Temple’s characters remain a mystery. The glimpses of Bane’s destruction of Gotham look absolutely huge, the Batwing is awesome (“This isn’t a car”), and the trailer as a whole promises something even more epic than many of us may have been expecting, without revealing any spoilers. It’s pretty damn perfect, and imagining it up on the big screen – with roughly one hour of IMAX-shot footage – gives me chills. I’ve watched this trailer half a dozen times already, and the fire is still rising! Wake me up when it’s July 20.

The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20 on IMAX worldwide, and stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Juno Temple and Michael Caine. Watch the final theatrical trailer below (via The Playlist)
