Those persistent rumours of Radiohead coming our way later this year have been confirmed today with the announcement of one show at Auckland’s Vector Arena on November 6. The seminal alternative band hasn’t performed down under since 1998 — almost a generation ago — which makes this far and away the most exciting gig news of 2012. Thom Yorke and co. are currently touring last year’s eighth LP The King of Limbs, and guitarist Ed O’Brien recently explained in an interview with BBC 6 Music that the focus is on indoor venues where “the music is loud, strong, and detailed.” He also elaborated about their current setlist, saying “I think the important thing is that it’s got to be a set in itself, it’s got to work. Last time we went out, it felt very much like In Rainbows plus the greatest hits. And it’s not going to be like that this time. I guess it’s going to be predominantly from this record and the last record, and then see which songs fit around that.” Whether we get a greatest hits setlist or not, I’m just grateful that we’re finally getting an opportunity to see the greatest band of our time in concert. Radiohead will be supported by Connan Mockasin, and tickets go on sale later this week.
