I’m a little ashamed to admit I’ve only recently discovered Sharon Van Etten, thanks to her wonderful new album Tramp. The Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter has previously released two solo albums and collaborated with the likes of The Antlers and The National. Her music combines traditional folk with introspective and personal lyrics, all delivered with a beautiful, elegant voice. Tramp, produced by The National’s Aaron Dessner, is being praised as her most diverse and rewarding work yet. It also features a fine pedigree of guest appearances, including Wye Oak’s Jenn Wasner, The Walkmen’s Matt Barrick and Beirut’s Zach Condon. Following her first TV appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon a few weeks back (see below), Van Etten is starting to blow up and I expect great things from her. Tramp will be released next week (February 7) but you can stream the album below, which I suggest you do immediately.
